Knockerdown Inn, Carsington Water

Overview

After a  good walk around Carsington Water you will be delighted to end the day at the The Knockerdown. There is a cosy feel to the place and you are always made to feel welcome on arrival by owners or staff.

The Nock-a-down as it was affectionately known, opened as a beer house in 1838 – its official name was the Greyhound, this dog being the family crest of the Gell family, who owned the property.

In 1848 the Inn was granted a full license and has traded ever since. The Gell family sold the Greyhound or the Knockerdown as we know it on July 11th 1919 for £930.00. Described as stoned and tiled with a Taproom, Bar, Cellar, Parlour, Kitchen, three beds and a box room, outside was a tiled building for tying four cows and a stable for two horses – February 4th 1931 saw the Inn was purchased by Marstons Brewery

There is a bar area for drinkers, but dining fits in very well in different areas dotted about the inside & outside of the pub.

The Knockerdown sits on the main road between Ashbourne & Wirksworth just above Carsington Water.
