Grindleford Station Cafe

Grindleford Station Cafe is located near the railway station in the picturesque Peak District village of Upper Padley – Grindleford is about 1 mile away!

A buffet once dominated by the character of one Philip Eastwood snr. – writer of a thousand pithy signs and notices – Grindleford Station Cafe is now run by his son young Phillip – and those signs: “If you want to be a fire guard, join the fire brigade.” So, no hogging the fire, then, ‘one napkin per person’ and the very important ‘don’t ask for mushrooms as we don’t sell them’ the food served here is excellent and well worth the trip.

A much loved greasy spoon, formerly the station caff and inhabited mostly by bikers and walkers, you can be guaranteed the best hangover cure known to man – the Full English with extra chips. The portions are extremely large, pints of tea are offered & no nonsense menus. There are plans to relaunch bottled Grindleford Spring Water – which flows in the grounds.

This cafe is very popular with both walkers and bikers and parking can be a little awkward at the weekends if you arrive in a car – there is normally plenty of room for bikes.

A quote from the Guardian Newspapers Ten best railway cafes in Britain –‘Condensation runs down institutional green walls studded with faded posters of far Himalayan hills, but there are a couple of coal fires and plenty of papers and local info to read whilst you’re drinking your pint mug of builder’s tea. Truly a national treasure’.

It is also a brilliant spot to explore Padley Gorge and the surrounding countryside and return for tea and sustenance.
